H13 Tool Steel
H13 Tool Steel is a versatile chromium-molybdenum hot work steel has good thermal shock resistance and thermal fatigue cracking. H14 is able to handle some water cooling while in service. H13 ESR (electroslag remelting) has greater homogeneity and superior fine structure, which leads to improved machinability, polishability and high temperature tensile strength. Alloy H13 has high hardenability, excellent wear resistance and hot toughness.
H13 has good toughness and good stability in heat treatment. This is available as ESR and in VAR (vacuum-arc-remelted) also.

M2 Tool Steel
M2 is a very popular grade of high speed steel and has excellent toughness, wear resistance and red hardness properties.
This material also comes in a M2 ESR version.

H-11 Tool Steel
H-11 tool steel is a hot work steel that is represented by its excellent impact toughness. It consists of less vanadium than the commonly used H13 hot work tool steel. This gives it the higher toughness, with some reduction in wear resistance and temper resistance. H11 is a deep-hardening, air-hardening steel that gives minimal size change during heat treatment. It also has super resistance to thermal fatigue cracking (heat checking) and superb resistance to gross cracking and thermal shock when water cooled in service. Experts will recommend H11 for hot tooling applications where maximum resistance to cracking is required.

D2 Tool Steel
D2 Tool Steel is has become the tool and die standard to compare against other tool steels. It has relatively high attainable hardness and an abundant and large, chromium-rich alloy carbides in the microstructure. These carbides are what provides very good resistance to wear from sliding contact with other metals and abrasive materials. It is has good toughness, tool performance, price, and a wide variety of product forms. This is also available as an Electro-Slag-Remelted (ESR) product. The remelting process provides improved chemical homogeneity, refinement of carbide size, and the associated improvements in mechanical and fatigue properties.
